How much work do we get each night?
The workload that you get really depends on the teachers you have. For freshman year, the workload should be manageable, getting about 1-2 hours of homework at most. To manage your time, it may be helpful to use the planner that the school provides to plan out your time.
Do Freshman year grades matter?
Yes! Don't start off high school by slacking off. If you find yourself struggling in your classes, there is tutoring available during lunch periods. Colleges will look at all your grades, including your freshman year!
Is there summer homework?
Yes! The summer homework this year is to read Another Brooklyn by Jaqueline Woodson. Most teachers prefer that you have a hard copy version of the book, so make sure to buy a used one on Amazon or rent one from a library. It also wouldn’t hurt to make notes for every chapter, as many teachers will base their first lessons on the book at the beginning of the school year.
HOw long is the school day?
A regular LaGuardia day is from 8am to 4:09 am, though sometimes the schedule may vary depending on what periods you have free and the school calendar. Many students have free periods their freshmen year and have study skills, which is basically a study hall in the library. For the LaGuardia bell schedules, click here.
Where do i see my grades?
Our school uses Pupilpath for grades. Make sure to register to Pupilpath and have your parents register as well. This is where you will see your grades for all your classes and your regents scores. Don’t obsess over your grades, just make sure that you stay on top of your work!
What is there to do after school?
There are many activities and extracurriculars that you can participate in after school. Laguardia has over 20 sports teams (https://bit.ly/2Klkx2p) and over 35 clubs! (Key Club, Robotics Club, Baking Club, Cosplay, etc) Clubs fair usually happen around October and early November so be sure to check that out if you are interested!
HOW DO I STAY UP TO DATE ON INFORMATION?
Our school has a weekly bulletin that is sent to your non-LaGuardia email address. If you are not receiving these emails by the time school is in session, email your Big Sib or [email protected] so that we can help you out!
